Export from 3d Modeler

I know its a little out of subject but may i ask you what the process you use to  export skinned model from 3DS max or some other 3d Modeler to XNA.
You use speciale version?
You use speciale plugin or something ?
Because i'm juste trying to use 3D animations into a project.This one works for the "dude" model but not to other customs models.

We use kw-xport to export as .x files - we had problems with the panda .x exporter

For FBX we have used the one built in to Max

You have to be careful - many Max features simply dont work in one or other of the formats.

We found a process using "Kw x-port" and making sure that the root's bone is the identity matrix.

What do you specifically do to make sure the root bone is identity? I've had a few problems with my models being rotated and I suspect its the root bone.
