Maya fbx exporter

I am using maya's fbx exporter. When I open the file in a text editor, there are allot of nonsense symbols such as squares everywhere. When I open the example files, the code is very neat and readable. I am using maya 8 and fbx exporter 200611. How did you generate your fbx file. What settings? and how do you name an animation in maya?

It sounds like you might be exporting it as binary. Look for an option about using ASCII instead of binary, and it should be a lot more human-readable. I dont know how to name an animation in Maya, but it's just as easy to name it after the fact inside the FBX file. Once you're got an ASCII FBX, you should be able to scroll down and see the Takes section, where you can manually rename your animation like so:

Take: "Take 001" {
change to
Take: "Run" {

Hope that helps,
